Short Bio

I'm Tommy Serigne, a longtime martial artist and philosopher of combat. I believe in the spirit of martial arts and its ability to transform people physically, mentally, and spiritually. It saved my life from addiction, crippling depression, and anxiety—and now I’m committed to helping others unlock their own hidden potential through the path of discipline, self-discovery, and combat.

Early Life & Background

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and raised in Florida from the age of four, I dreamed of becoming a martial artist for as long as I can remember. Inspired by Jackie Chan movies and Dragon Ball Z, I spent countless hours outside mimicking kicks and punches—until my parents finally enrolled me in a martial arts school in a nearby town.

Growing up, I was a weak and sickly kid, even struggling with asthma. But martial arts changed everything. Through consistent training and dedication, my body grew stronger, my health improved, and my asthma eventually faded. It was my first experience with the transformative power of martial arts—something that still shapes me today.

Education & Training

I hold former certifications with the National Strength and Conditioning Association and ACTION Training Systems, and I’m certified in CPR, First Aid, and AED response.

My martial arts journey began with Yoshukai Karate, a full-contact Okinawan style known for its intensity and discipline. I earned the rank of Blue Belt and fought in numerous full-contact bouts that tested and shaped my resilience.

In Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I currently hold a Blue Belt with two stripes and have competed multiple times, honing my grappling under pressure. I’ve also trained extensively in both Boxing and Muay Thai, with recorded wins in both disciplines. My training reflects a balanced focus on striking, grappling, and real-world applicability.

Professional Journey

While I’m still early in my professional coaching career, my foundation has been built through years of personal experience in combat sports and competition. Every fight, every round, and every lesson learned on the mat or in the ring contributes to how I coach and guide others today. My journey is ongoing, but the mission is clear: help others become stronger, more disciplined, and more confident—inside and outside of the gym.

Martial Arts & Training Philosophy

Although I started martial arts at a young age, life pulled me away for a long time. I battled serious physical injuries and deep mental health struggles, but I came to truly understand the meaning of the phrase, “That which doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”

No matter how bad things got, the gym was always there. Training became my anchor. Over time, I realized that competition isn’t really about fighting someone else—it’s about confronting yourself. When you stand in the ring across from your opponent, you're really staring into a mirror. Every fight is a test of your own fear, doubt, and discipline.

Martial arts is a combat sport, yes—but within the violence, I found peace. It taught me resilience, gave me purpose, and helped me rebuild a broken body and mind. At 37, I’m still training, still evolving, and I bring that same mindset to the way I coach others: with grit, honesty, and a belief that the fight can transform you, if you let it.

Personal Philosophy & Values

My approach to life and martial arts is deeply influenced by Zen principles—simplicity, presence, and flow. I believe in finding clarity through action and stillness through struggle.

I strive to keep things fun, even when the work is hard. If you can’t enjoy the grind, you won’t last in it. That joy is part of the fight—it keeps you coming back.

One of the texts that shaped my mindset is The Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi. His philosophy on strategy, timing, and the warrior’s mindset taught me that mastery isn’t about brute strength—it’s about knowing yourself, staying adaptable, and moving with purpose.

---

Community Involvement & Outreach

I may not run a formal program, but my phone line is always open for anyone who’s struggling. I’ve been there—physically broken, mentally overwhelmed, and unsure of my next step. If I can help someone climb out of that place, even just a little, I will.

Whether it’s through a training session, a conversation, or just being present, I believe in supporting others the way I wish I’d been supported during my lowest points. Sometimes all someone needs is to know they’re not alone.

---

Future Aspirations

My goals are simple but unwavering: train for longevity, continue improving my craft, and help prepare the next generation of martial artists. I want to be a bridge—someone who’s taken the hits, learned the lessons, and can now pass that wisdom forward.

Success to me isn’t about titles or trophies. It’s about staying in the fight—physically, mentally, and spiritually—for as long as I can, and making sure others can do the same.
